“Quality alpacas at reasonable prices with personal interest and support for your success.”
We are Nicky Roth and Chris Neumann, and we found this 30-acre farm 22 years ago, moved our horses, dogs and cats from Southern Maryland, fixed up the old house, and 11 years ago dreamed about our future. We wanted to raise some kind of critter on Willow Spring Farm that would:
-have babies every year
-never go to slaughter
-decorate our pastures
-and help support the farm’s financial needs in later years.
In addition, we wanted to raise something that we could manage in retirement, and still travel. We are now 66, and Alpacas of Willow Spring is living up to our dream. First, we went to the National Sheep and Wool Festival, thinking that a rare breed of sheep would meet our needs. Wrong! All of these owners eventually found it necessary to slaughter most of their males for meat. But, while there, we saw alpacas for the first time. Wow, how cute they were! We sent away for info, got sticker shock when we asked their prices, and decided to forget the idea. Then the info came in the mail…, and after a lot of investigation, we decided that alpacas would indeed fit our needs.
We currently have a small herd of 16 huacaya alpacas, with 5 cria due this Fall. We have birthed 35 healthy adorable alpaca cria, (actually, the Moms did all the work!), and made a lot of friends along the way. We sell our alpacas to folks who have usually come to our all-day seminar, so we feel good about the homes that our alpacas have found.
We strongly believe in being personally available to our friends and customers, and our 40 years experience in animal husbandry, including what we’ve learned about alpacas in the last 12 years, is readily accessible, even when we’re on vacation. We take care of our alpacas ourselves, and favor a holistic, common-sense approach to raising them that is effective, affordable and balanced. Alpacas are tough and hardy animals who will thrive in most situations. We like all our customers to take advantage of our seminar to learn what alpacas need. We really believe in our motto!
